First I'd like to say I'm really impressed with 3.01 - it's working very well for me, and proving very stable - congrats to the team.
I have one small feature request to suggest, which hopefully would be straightforward to implement. It would be nice if the left pane included PGC Playback Time - perhaps just in minutes and seconds ? The (1 Program) text could be shortened to (1 PG) perhaps, to stop things getting cluttered. I have a project to post-author with the various video segments scattered apparently randomly throughout 29 PGCs, and repeatedly clicking on them to find out which is which is a bit clumsy. The durations would be a nice quick way to see this at a glance. ( Of course, ultimately a user-selectable thumbnail or name would be even better...! )
Hi Larry, Tracer has had
Hi Larry,
Tracer has had breakpoints since before the release of 3.0. It is still pretty basic, and of course John and I are aware of how to extend its capabilities, but just haven't had time to do so.
Please could you post some brief documantation on this ?
Ian
Believe it or not
Hi Ian,
Before DVDSP 2 came out, version 1.5 had a nice description file that we could read, and plug in the track names, etc. I actually had it working, but it got lost when 2.0 came out. Perhaps one day we can reinvent such a feature, but I would prefer to wait until we have a better project file structure than the current "one folder name fits all" scheme.

Larry
Non-disclosure?
Larry -
Thanks for the update.
A public forum isn't of course the best place to discuss a product roadmap. I for one would be happy to sign a non-disclosure with you all at any time to be able to partake in such a discussion "off-line".

Obviously, I've not been using Tracer enough! ;->

New Feature Request Forum
Hi Everyone,
I'm back from a mini (working) vacation at my sister's in San Diego. Amazing what you can do with a laptop and a fast internet connection. I was working on Debdoot's "The Quick and Dirty Guide to Pilates", which uses a new incarnation of the 24-clip playlist, but has a much more complete menu set and puts the clips into a single main movie. It also uses buttons on video to link back and forth to an explanation track.
Working on this exposed me again to some of the shortcomings of the current program, including the inability to drag multiple cells at a time, and having to recreate things from scratch after a new DVDSP build.
I have been aware of many of these things for a long time, but have been busy of late with the site reorganization and conversion. At some point soon I hope to be able to concentrate on new features, but most of them will have to be simple extensions of the current way of doing things, at least at first.
A separate place to keep track of feature requests is a good idea, and Donna (our web master) is setting up a feature-request forum. Ian, you will be the administrator. You could make the first post summarizing the requests made here so far, then others may post additional requests and you could continue to edit the top post.
We don't want to get too detailed about the status of particular requests, partly because this is a public forum and we don't want to reveal too much to competitors. Perhaps later we'll take some of it private (selected members only) to a Beta forum.

Roadmap for 4.0?
I concur with Ian - the dot release feels solid.
I would really love to get an idea of the roadmap for 'Edit now that 3.0 has been released. I'm sure many of us could come up with all sorts of ideas for features and tweaks but these might have little or no bearing on the direction in which you're already planning to take the product in 4.0. Better in that case to focus on how features might work or be exposed in the GUI.
On the other hand, if you are looking for more raw user input for the feature set for 4.0, here's my wish list again:
1- Robust implementation of seamless branching.
2- Import single Title VOB to existing VTS as new Title (not new VTS).
3- Multiple select from Available Cells window and drag into Program Map window.
4- Ability record a set of edits and then apply them again at a later time (either to the same project or to a new project). Something akin to Photoshop Actions.
5- Break and trace point support in Tracer.
Michael
Typing the above made me
Typing the above made me think - Larry, would it be useful if I set up a "Feature Requests" page in the Resources section ? It could have seperate sections, eg.
1 - Ideas currently under development
2 - Ideas which have been accepted and are likely to be implemented at a future date, with an indication of whether they are considered urgent or not
3 - Ideas which have been suggested but rejected, and a brief explanation of the reason for the decision
I would be happy to set this up, if you like the idea ?
Ian
