Hi, I've been interested in AfterEdit for a long time. Right now I have two requests from customers and I'm wondering if DVDAE will accomplish them:
1. I need to be able to copy DLT's. Both DVD9 and Single layer DVD's including layer break info. I only have one DLT unit (connected to G5) so I'd need to be able to copy DLT onto Hard Drive, then copy back to new DLT. Will DVDAE do this? What's involved?
2. A client has a finished DVD that has the 'scan forward' and scan back' commands prohibited on the disc. Can I use DVDAE to quickly enable these functions and burn a new DVD or DLT?
Thanks much! Rob
Hopefully good answers
Hi Rob,
1. The procedure would be to copy the DLT(s) to a folder on the hard drive, usually naming the folder to match the DVD name. (You can change it later). For DVD9's, DVDAE will try to preserve the layer break, but that will not always be possible if the DLT was created with parallel track path, which we do not support. (There are ways to get around this problem).
Then you use the Format/Copy dialog to create new DLT's. So in this respect, they are not true copies, but are formatted by our very comprehensive rules, which are designed to make the resulting DVD as compatible as possible to the DVD specifications, and follow the Eclipse rules.
2. The User permissions are very easy to change, but you should make sure they are permitted from the top level down, as lower-level permissions will override top-level ones.
DVDAE does not burn DVD's, most users use Toast for that, or Nero on a PC.

Larry
