Cannot Write DLTs - DVDAE Does Not Provide A Layer Break?

We have a client who wants 2 DLTs (layer 0 & 1) restored to a TS folder then written back to another set of DLTs with the Macrovision flags off.

I can restore the 7.5 gig TS folder which plays fine but AE does not provide a layer break when using the Format/Compare function to write another set of DLTs?

Any Ideas would be great..

Eric

Because they would make

Because they would make layer 0 too big. You can study the layer break info in the right pane when you click on each potential cell to get the idea.

Okay

OK...I chose one of the nav packs and inserted a cell and it writes fine :)

However, I'm blind here. There were plenty of cells from which AE could have chosen a layer break making layer 0 larger than layer 1 - Why would simply adding another cell change this?

Thanks for the help Larry

Eric

Possibly layer break was PTP

Hi Eric,

DVDAE does not support layer breaks with the parallel track method, where the first layer is smaller than the second, instead of the other way around with OTP.

One way to make the first layer long enough is to add dummy video at the end of the VMG. If there are no menus there, it will be easy. Otherwise you may have to run the VMG section through a de-mux for elementary streams, then redo them.

The previous layer break is most likely the last cell before the start of blue arrows, or slightly before that. You can analyze the possible layer breaks with the blue arrows and read sector addresses on the cells and nav packs to figure out how much video you need to add to make that cell a legal OTP layer break.

Another method is just to insert a cell at a nav pack that has a blue arrow on it in DVDAE. Just point at the nav pack, right click, and you will see "Insert Cell". You will have to check the commands to make sure the additional cell doesn't invalidate anything, which is unlikely but possible.

Sorry for the complexity, and we will be adding PTP layer breaks to the new program, but that won't help you with this problem.

Regards,

Larry
