Welcome to the new HD forum.
Please post here about HD issues you find interesting. To kick things off, Michael said:
And, as far as Advanced Content goes...just so you know, I think I'm more of a BD-J kind of guy. ;-)
To which my immediate reply was - I'm very jealous that you have access to the BD-J toolset ! :-)
Or... am I ? I read this yesterday:
http://blogs.msdn.com/andypennell/archive/2007/05/16/why-blu-ray-is-not-technically-advanced.aspx
- which I found very interesting. I'm always suspicious of partisan comments like this, but I did think that most of it seemed to be fair enough - or, is it the desperation of a company whose format is failing ?
There's lots of spin-doctoring out there, but I'd really like to hear "real-world" feedback from our users who have personal experience they would like to share. So, for example, my experiments with HD DVD Advanced Content show that it's seductively cheap and simple to get started, but a great deal more difficult to get something pressed ( which is one reason why I see a need for HD support in DVDAE, btw. )
BD-J on the other hand, currently has no tools available at all short of Scenarist - and, from all that I hear, the more advanced stuff still isn't "there" yet anyway.
Really interested to hear people's thoughts and experiences !
Cheers,
Ian
One of our clients recently
One of our clients recently recieved a quote for a BD-J title. $70,000 - $100,000! I couldn't stop laughing :) I have to believe the lack of available tools (and price) for BD-J authoring will have some kind of effect on the amount of content in the near future. HDi is available to anyone. You can sit down tonight and author a title if you really knew what you were doing.
As a consumer I don't care what format wins or doesn't win. However, as a designer and author who makes his living from providing DVDs to clients, I find it odd why anyone in my same position would be supporting BD-J at this point. If you had access to the tools that would be a different story.
