John, Larry, Trai, et al -
Below is a small (!) stack ranked wish list for features in upcoming releases of 'Edit. I know you all have your hands full restructuring 'Edit into three products, working on the web site and working on a dot release for 3.0. I'm not expecting to see these in the product any time soon. Still, I figured it wouldn't hurt to plant the seeds for what might make it into some future release N of the product.
1- Robust implementation of seamless branching.
2- Import single Title VOB to existing VTS as new Title (not new VTS).
3- Multiple select from Available Cells window and drag into Program Map window.
4- Ability to apply UOPs to all Nav Packs in a Cell w/o having to select them. [Bonus points: apply UOPs to all Nav Packs in a PGC.]
5- Ability record a set of edits and then apply them again at a later time (either to the same project or to a new project). Something akin to Photoshop Actions.
6- Break and trace point support in Tracer.
Thanks for all your good works!
Michael
Hi Larry,
Hi Larry,
I would like to add my 2 cents with DVDAfterEdit going all the way one day. Is to have Tracer support a Broadcast monitor.I think this would be an invaluable tool for final comp preparation. For those of us who don't have a dedicated encoding station.
Cheers
Rodney
Hi Michael, I'm looking
Hi Michael,
I'm looking forward to this one, too :-) I agree with Larry, though - "Paste Recursive" suggests to me that the pasting procedure loops in on itself in some way, which is not the case. ( I've thought of navpacks as leaves on the DVD Tree, in the past, though ! One for the OT forum, I think ;-)
"Paste to Navpacks" would also work for me, but "Paste Deeply Into" has a slightly obscure, arcane feel to it which I like...
Looking forward to giving it a workout, anyway !
Ian
I think I was trying to use
I think I was trying to use it in this sense:
Definition: (1) A data structure that is partially composed of other instances of the data structure. For instance, a tree is composed of smaller trees (subtrees) and leaf nodes, and a list may have other lists as elements.
[Source: http://www.nist.gov/dads/HTML/recursive.html]
I think I see the NavPacks in a Cell and the Cells in a PGC (and the PGCs in a Title and Titles in a VTS for that matter) as all existing in a tree-like relationship to each other.
Still, perhaps it's not the most precise use of term. I'm just really happy to see the feature!

Hi Michael, Recursive means
Hi Michael,
Recursive means calling itself, which is not the case. Thanks for the good words.
Regards,
Larry
I just saw this in the notes
I just saw this in the notes for the 3.0.1 interim release:
6. The function "Paste Deeply Into" has been added to Copy/Paste. This new function permits pasting in all Nav Packs in a cell without having to expand the cell arrow and select all of them. See "Editing in DVDAfterEdit" for an explanation.
That knocks out my #4 above. Excellent!
One small suggestion: instead of "Paste Deeply Into" why not "Paste Recursive"?
Michael
