Calling for Test Projects

We are now able to format HDDVD Standard Content single-layer projects to UDF 2.5 disc image, and are beginning to test playing them in the Apple DVD Player, and other players. One serious problem is that the Apple Player won't play even standard content images created by other authoring systems, and PowerDVD on Windows and set top boxes won't play images created by DVD Studio Pro. This is even for DVD's without AACS, or with the AACS removed.

(edit...) We have now solved the problem stated above, and the Apple Player will now play images that we create. It turns out that the Apple Player looks for an Apple signature on HDDVD content.

We would very much like to be able to create images that can be burned and played by multiple players. But we are lacking test data. What we need are actual playable discs, without AACS, or hard drive images of those discs. This is because the software which creates the disc or image adds the UDF directory structure, and we need to examine such structures created by software other than DVD Studio Pro, to see how it differs.

Any HD DVD or blu-ray test projects that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. We will keep them in-house for test purposes only. The best way to create one would be to make a disc image with your favorite software (Scenarist, ULead, etc.) and copy it to a DVD-R data disc. Or if it is small enough, upload it to either your own or our server. It does not matter if the DVD is HD standard content, HD DVD advanced content, or blu-ray. We want all of them, the UDF structure is purported to be the same for all.

If the DVD is small, (under 200 mb) please contact me by email (larry at this site) and I will give you upload instructions.

You can mail them to me at:

or send by UPS, etc. to:

We will use any data supplied to us for in-house testing only, and will not pass it out to others without your permission.

Regards,

Larry

Rides

Hi Larry,

I will mail you one of Niran's "Rides" discs - they are not encrypted, which will make life easier. Sorry, I should have done this sooner.
