chapter back breaking title boundries

First off.. I'm a newbie.. totally in over my head on this project. But very technically savvy. And have figured out how to do some really cool stuff that IS working on multiple players.

Second.. I'm making commercially available DVDs in DVD Studio Pro and then fixing them up a bit in DVD AE.

Third.. the problem I am describing has been happening for a while. And before DVDAE came into my world. I am hoping to be able to FIX it with DVD AE.

All my DVDs are doing this weird thing where you can use the remote control PREV button to get past the boundary of a title. It takes you back through all the titles on the DVD (even through the easter egg) and all the way to the FBI logos. My main feature is title 6. So if I play that and then maybe hit chapter forward a few times.. then start hitting chapter back repeatedly, it will chapter back to title 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1.

This only happens on real players. It's not happening in DVD SP simulator, or in the Tracer. When I format or burn the DVD, it's not happening in the apple dvd player. But it's happening on all the real DVD players that I've tested it on.

Please help as this is the LAST thing I have to fix on this DVD before it goes for replication.

Hi Michael, Glad you got it

Hi Michael,

Glad you got it working ! There is a decent summary of UOPs on page 600 of the DVDSP manual.

FIXED IT!

Yeah that Fixed it. I tried turning off a lot of those in the first 30 or so navpacks. I have not tried just the one they suggested.

I didn't like the idea of disabling the chapter back for the whole first cell because the user might want to use chapter back button on the remote to get back to the top of the chapter. Now my way, they can't to do it for the first 15 seconds or so, but that's an acceptable compromise.

There doesn't seem to be any real documentation anywhere on what all of these UOPs do exactly. Some of them have names that are almost identical to other ones. It's the most non intuitive thing in the world...

Time Play or Search
PTT Play or Search
Title Play
Stop
Go Up
Time or PTT Search
..

So what's the diff between Time Play or Search, PTT Play or Search, and Time or PTT Search??? Pick any two and I could be convinced that they're just different ways of saying the same thing.

So in my uops I disabled them all for the first 30 navpacks... along with TopPG or PrevPG Search. My uop is "103".

I tried it on some players

I tried it on some players and only my LG LDA-731 skipped titles anyway.

Deny "Title Play" UOP ?

There is another suggestion here, has anyone tried it ?

I do the same as Eric,

I do the same as Eric, disabling Next/Previous Program, at NavPack level, usually for the first 2 seconds, because if I remember, only 1 GOP was not enough for some players and they were skipping back anyway, but I'm not that sure, can someone point this out ?

Pete

UOP 1 is not mandatory for

UOP 1 is not mandatory for players, whereas UOP 6 and 7 are

Also UOP PTT Play/Search

This also seems to help with this problem. It's UOP 1.

Michael

Disable UOPS

I usually disable my "next" & "previous" UOPS in the first and last cell of a title to avoid this kind of thing. BTW...don't trust the simulator..its only a guide for authoring.
