There's much talk about PTP support in the new version of DVDAE (AKA HDAE). What confuses me is that it seems as if the layer switch time on a PTP disc (which requires repositioning the head back to the inside of the disc and refocusing on layer 1) would guarantee a noticeable hiccup in playback, longer than with an OTP disc (where the laser only needs to be refocused from layer 0 to 1 w/o repositioning). So unless a PTP layout allowed you to put the break at the start of a TT, or in IFO/BUP-space, it would be an inferior choice. [Note: the majority of the features I work on necessitate setting the break in the middle of a TT, in black or at a hard cut w/o any audio overlap.]
I guess I'm just thinking through this thing out loud. I'd certainly welcome comments from folks who've actually authored PTP discs and have had to make these considerations.

Hi Michael, Yes ! I haven't
Hi Michael,
Yes ! I haven't actually authored a disc like this myself, but the pause involved is likely to be substantial, and vary from player to player. I guess you could get a real-world idea of how bad this will be by creating a test disc and having a button in the VMG link to something right at the end of the disc - probably the time for the laser to move will be much longer than the refocusing.
