DVDAfterEdit Mastering Edition Releases

Hi, I am currently using HD pro 3 which works fine on my g4. I didn't do
my research on my new mac pro and am finding out that HD pro 3 doesn't
work well on the mac pro as well as the problems HD pro 4 is having with
the pro mac and the mastering to dlt - Yikes!

Does your product - DVDAfterEdit Mastering Edition supply the ability to
create a dvd project as well as master it using a dlt drive. I have a
quantum 8000 which works great with my quicksilver g4. I also have an
atto scsi card in that g4 which does very well. Any way I am re- thinking
my software needs and what would be the best and most stable authoring
software with the mac pro since apple has really (as far as I am
concerned) messed up with their product.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Donna,

With DVDAfterEdit Mastering Edition (DVDAE ME) and your two computers you will have maximum flexibility. First, DVDAE has proven to be the most reliable DLT mastering program, has avoided the bugs that have cropped up in DVD Studio Pro (DVDSP) over the years, and can be used to pre-master on either computer, though you would need an ATTO UL5D for the Mac Pro. I have that setup on my development system.

If you don't want to get into spec authoring or expanding the capabilities of your current authoring methods, you can continue to author entirely in DVDSP, write out the VIDEO_TS folder, and use DVDAE to set the layer break and pre-master. So, if you wish to move your primary work flow to the Mac Pro, you could write out a DDP (Tape) Image from DVDAE on the Mac Pro as your final step, move it to the G4, and use DVDAE to write your tape(s). We permit multiple installations for the same user.

When you purchase DVDAE ME you will also get our new program HDAfterEdit (HDAE), without additional charge. HDAE will also be capable of pre-mastering to DDP 3.0 for HD DVD and Blu-ray. So far those formats do not use DLT. This will be the 1.0 version of HDAE, and we plan to go much further with its HD capabilities, and charge for future upgrades. We are already working on conversion from DVDSP Standard Content projects to Advanced Content for further editing in HDAE.

So I would recommend that you keep your DLT writing on the G4, and switch to the Mac Pro for your main workflow so you can take advantage of the improvements offered in Final Cut HD 4 and the increases in speed with the Intel processors. And continue to use DVDSP as your primary authoring tool in the near term. As HDAE matures, you will be able to substitute it for DVDAE in the pre-mastering phase, and then take advantage of its superior workflow capabilities and the ability to move into HD.

We view our software as the next step beyond DVD Studio Pro, and pride ourselves on solving problems that sometimes fall between the cracks at Apple. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Regards,

Larry
