Will AE ME work under OS9.2.2?

I would like to install AE ME on the same G4 Quicksilver I use for my Creator system. Since Creator is locked into OS 9.2.2 it would be more convenient to run AE ME under OS 9.2.2. I have played around with AE Demo and it seems to work in OS 9.2.2. Will AE ME work running under OS9.2.2?

If so, I assume I will not need to replace the Adaptec 39160 to use the DLT7000. Is this correct?

Otherwise I understand I will need to run AE ME under OSX and replace the Adaptec with an ATTO. Is there any problem with leaving the Adaptec in the system under OSX but not using it?

I have been using AE Demo to see how the program works. I can open Video_TS but not image files. I assume this is a limitation of Demo and that ME can open Main.dat files.

Thanks,
Chris

Another thought...

The new program, DDPAfterBurner, should tell us if your Adaptec card will work. It is fully functional for copying DDP images to and from DLT except for the demo limitation of 1 GB per tape. You can download it here. Just create a small test project from Creator and make a DDP image. Or try mounting a DLT tape you created earlier, and see if it recognizes it and displays the DDP information.

OS X required

Hi Chris,

Mastering edition will not run under OS 9, because it uses the OS X SCSI interfaces.

The Adaptec card might work, since OS X has been updated over the years. But probably not. If you are not in a hurry you could try it before ordering an ATTO.

The best price I have found for the ATTO cards are open box or refurbished from Tech For Less.

I would not leave the Adaptec card in the machine. SCSI is finicky and unpredictable.

The Demo and Standard versions do not support disc or DDP images. Mastering Edition will open .img files and DDP folders containing Layer0 and Layer1 folders, not the .DAT file directly (unless you change the extension).

Regards,

Larry
