Making the remote "Next" or "Skip" work in a project

Hi guys

I have a release I'm working on where after the legalese and logos there're 3 different trailers that couldn't be skipped.
I ok'd all the UOPs on each one, and I can jump from anyone of them to the Menu, but I cannot make the Next or Skip button work.
It seems that it wasn't authored that way, as I've done a similar project where enabling all the UOPs let me skip from one trailer to the other or go to the Menu using the menu button.
How do you do it in DVDAE?
Thanks in advance and best regards.
PS: and a special thanks to Ian for teaching me to enable UOPs selectively on different chapters of the same VTS last week!

That would be great

Absolutely ! I started a more detailed reply (about adding dummy PGCs to create a multi-PGC title, using the Next/Previous PGC fields to link to them, and then calling a VMG PGC to jump to the next VTS) but decided I'd start by offering the quick & dirty method instead, since it's probably the fastest way to achieve what Enrique needs. But Trai, if you have a detailed article outlining the method "ready to go", I'm sure people would appreciate it !

Rather than emailing people individually, I'd be happy to post it up here, if you like ?

Ian

I'd like to see that...

Any chance I could get a copy of that article?

Not the best way

How's it going Enrique?!

The problems with the mentioned method is it's not foolproof, and you can't skip backwards through the clips (some clients will notice this and not like it).

The DVD Specifications provide a bullet-proof and quick way to set up skipping forwards and backwards through all the clips in separate VTS's.

I've got an old article covering this that goes over how to quickly arrange the structure of the VTS and the programming, and until I get it posted please contact me privately for the info, if you'd like.

Take care,

Trai

Yes, it will

Thanks, Ian, I've done that in the past in DVD SP. It should be alright provided that there's some black at the end. Thanks again.

In that case you can't do

In that case you can't do what you want directly - some players allow you to jump from one VTS to the next, but this is a spec violation. There are various other ways to achieve what you want, but probably the simplest is to just add a new chapter, 4 navpacks back from the end of each PGC. That way hitting the Next remote key will take you straight to the end of the clip, and then the post-commands will do the rest. It's slightly messy because you see the last couple of seconds of the PGC, but it's pretty foolproof.

Will that work for you ?

Ian

Each one on its own VTS

Hi Ian

Each trailer is in it's own VTS.

More info

Hi Enrique,

How are they laid out ? Are they all in the same PGC ? Or separate PGCs ? Or each in it's own VTS ?

Ian

PS. You're welcome :-)
