Need to replace SCSI Host Adapter

Hi DAE's fans,

First, let me summarize the situation. Since about 2 weeks, most DLT's I've outputted failed to compare, stating a "Buffer mismatch, data compare error", while the TS/DDP compare had no errors. I own a ATTO ExpressPCI-DC (Driver 2.0.4) with a Quantum DLT4000. So I suspected a driver or hardware issue. Tried to update the driver, with success, than tried flash update the card... connection failure, ouch! Long talking and testing with ATTO Tech Support to hard flash over a PC (BIOS), to conclude that the card is too messed up, need to replace.

I'm running on G4 (DC) 10.4.11, so I'm now looking for something like a UL4S or UL4D, but I wonder what you guys use as a reliable configuration Mac type/OS version/Card type & driver ?

Could my failed compare issue be a driver or OS corrupt thing ?

Thanks
Pierre

Right, I already asked,

Right, I already asked, waiting for their response, that would be my best option. I just need to keep the option of DLT for this stressed client.

BTW The Eclipse report always states that "VOBU length & number of sectors disagree" error is caused at the authoring stage, but my last 5 DLT's all had this error (Compare failed with Buffer mismatch) and the DDP image on DVD-R worked for each, so I'm confident there's nothing wrong with DAE or DVDSP. That's why I bought new DLT stuff. But Eclipse should modify this statement as there are hardware possibilities for this error.

what about on a flash thumb nail drive?

Hi Pierre,

He should accept it on a hard drive or flash thumbnail drive.

Larry

That's what I was afraid of.

That's what I was afraid of. So what would you suggest to output this DDP folder to DLT ? I mean, I have to output the DLT tomorrow deadline. I have access to both Mac and PC, but at the moment none of the Mac's has an ATTO card (only Adaptec, which I have no time to guess a work on that). Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gear Pro can't output DDP folder, only VIDEO_TS to DLT. I feel I'm really blocked on this one and the replicator doesn't want to use the DDP on DVD-R I provided, they insist to get another DLT. I know this is the way to go, but at this time, no such luck to success...

No...

I don't think this is a good idea. DVDSP uses the info in the .lay file it created when the project was originally output to disc to determine things like the LB position. Once you change things using DVDAE the .lay file no longer matches what's in the VIDEO_TS.

Just bought a UL4S and

Just bought a UL4S and DLT8000 on eBay, should be faster.

Another question, can DVDSP output correctly to DLT a VIDEO_TS modified with DAE ? The problem is that for the moment, I can't output to DLT and would like to bring the TS folder to another guy with a DLT but he only has DVDSP (with an Adaptec card).

Hi Pierre, ATTO cards have

Hi Pierre,

ATTO cards have always worked well, Larry has tested the UL5D, UL4D, and UL4S under Leopard using the 4.20 driver. If you search for ATTO here on the site, you'll find a few posts from people using other cards too, if you want to give them a shot.

Hope that helps,

Ian
