Greetings, those of you still reading this forum. (And I actually think there are still a goodly number of you out there, lurking.)
Recently I've been wondering if I could dispense with DLT delivery and switch to USB thumb drives (which have become hella cheap). Is this practical or will I find that most replicators are unwilling to accept these in place of tape?
Let me know what you know...
Michael
Viruses
Thanks for the reply, Larry.
My concern has been that replicators will be twitchy about receiving files on drives of any sort because of concerns about viruses which can afflict some operating systems (Windows) more than others. So I was hoping to hear some stories from the field. I guess I'll just have to make some phone calls of my own and see what I can learn that way.

P.S. WRT to replicators and the pace of technology, I know of one very large well established facility in LA that can still only take DLT Type III. To their credit, they will accept DDP images via wham!net but that's beyond the means of small artisanal authors such as myself.
Thumb drives are good
Hi Okeanos,
Yes, I'm watching these forums, but the first post of a new topic doesn't show up in the Recent Comments section so I missed your first post.
I would think that thumb drives are a better alternative to DLT tapes. Particularly since you don't need to supply a separate drive for each layer, one of the stupidest requirements of DLT, since both layers would easily fit on a DLT7000. But of course, since replicators tend to buzz along with the same policies year after year, you must check with your individual replicator.
Regards,
Larry
Hello?
Should I turn off the lights before I go?
