Hi,
1. trying to follow along in one of the tutorials, but I couldn't find the replace menu VOB command under the File tap? is it because it's the demo version? Does the standard version include this feature or the ME version?
2. I have been using DVDSP to author for 4-5 years, went from DVDSP 2 to 4. I authored about 25 discs plus every year, always on a DVD+R DL at the client's request. in the beginning, the discs were fairly compatible; but nowadays it has became less and less compatible. I would test the discs on one of the set-top box and on couple of my computer; and if the discs passes my test, most of the time they will play ok on the client's machine. That's not the case anymore. I have been using the same DVDSP project file as a template only switching out assets for the last 20 jobs or so and then relink all the assets and menus; i wonder by doing this, would i make the DVDSP to create more complicated abstraction layer versus if i started everything from scratch?
recently every disc that I authored has a similar trait which is - if you fast forward the main movie all the way thru, at the end of the program, the dvd player will freeze and spinning at unusual high speed (sounds like) and it won't be able to resume play back. This does not happen when you play back at real time. is this caused by the excessive commands in the abstraction layer?
I found the DVDafteredit interface very clean and easy to use, however where can get information on what does each command in the vm virtual machine do? There's no quick reference really, unless we go thru each tutorial and so happen it was described in it. It's very nice that DVDafteredit simplified things by creating drop down menu for pretty much all the commands there are, but without explanations to what each command does, it's makes the learning curve steeper than it should be for those who have no prior knowledge of Virtual Machine commands. The only useful link i found online was thru DVD-replica.com, but it's not a 100% free site.
The lack of support for the basics is the main reason that opposes the decision to purchase the software. I understand this is a professional level software, but how to find the material/ resource to help one to be proficient first seems to be a catch-22.
Thanks,
Hi Solo, No, the demo
Hi Solo,
No, the demo version will not replace a VTS, or save. Yes, what you describe would be much more efficient and easy to build using DVDAfterEdit and throwing the over-complicated abstraction layer away. The standard version does everything that Mastering Edition does except produce a DLT tape or DDP folder for replication.
The way to understand how the commands work are with Tracer. You will soon see it is all quite easy. Then you will be able to create your masterpiece once, then paste all of your commands into a text file and use them over and over in similar projects that you create in DVDSP without bothering to hook up anything in DVDSP.
Sorry that our documentation is not more formal and complete, but guided tour and Tracer Tutorials are quite good. Yes, DVDAfterEdit will require a learning period, but you will find it very much worth it.
Regards,
Larry
