Some time ago I got in the habit of deleting the project .plist files created by 'Edit. Is this still necessary?

I'm also curious to know if 'Edit can now discriminate between versions of a project that differ by the name of the sub-folder in which they are enclosed (e.g. project_v1/DVD/ vs project_v2/DVD/). There was a discussion about this a while back (see link below) but I don't know if it's ever been addressed.
