Hi guys
A client sent me three sets of DVD9 tapes to extract, change the region and dump to a new set. But my trusty Quantum 4000 seems to take an awful looong time to log the tapes, whirring and whorring, and then when it finally settles down (after 5 minutes) and I try to extract to Disk Folder with TFDVDEdit, it says that the Volume Header is missing...
Might be incompatibilities? The Eclipse analysis sheet they sent with the tapes says it was recorded on a Quantum 8000.
Has anyone had this happen?
Best to all

Hi Enrique,
You'll probably need an 8000 DLT drive to be able to extract those images. A 4000 can't read tapes written by 8000's, unless the 8000 was set at it's lowest density in manual overide mode, which is highly unlikely. That's the reason I got two DLT 8000 drives in here.
Take care,
Trai

Thanks, Trai. Bummer, isn't it? And the new mastering equipment they are selling comes equipped with the latest generation's DLT drives (I guess 8000s) and it doesn't read DLT IIIs either. I've done a lot of copying from III to IV for this client...sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Best to you
