*Sticky* Spec-authoring "gotchas"

This thread will contain a list of common quirks in player's implementation of the spec which can cause problems. The idea is to help out users migrating from abstraction-layer applications especially. This first post will be updated periodically so that it isn't necessary to read the whole thread.

When setting subtitle streams, audio streams etc. it is advisable to do so at the last possible moment - ie. in the pre-commands of the PGC in question. Some players manage to "forget" these settings, especially when moving between the VMG and VTSM, for example.

Command Line Errors....

I am new to AfterEdit and have authored several dvd's that have
MANY different ways to play back the content. The first 6
PGRM's have 8 partitions each, PGRM 6 has 2 and PGRM 7 has 1.
This is so I can use them to keep track of which versions get
played back. One project has 15 tracks and 37 stories.

The DVD works fine, though sometime slow when it is still seeking

Jumping over end of PGC

Hi guys. I am having a major issue with a disc I am trying to re-author in DVDAfterEdit. I have a project with multiple VTSs. One contains a single PGC with the feature and the others contain several PGCs for individual play and 'play all' versions of certain bonus features.

How to control subpicture duration

Back when I was authoring on Sonic Creator, I could control the start and stop time of the subpicture. This of course is great for motion menus that fade up and then down at the end where you want to subpicture to turn off rather than be stranded in black!

DVD SP only allows this at the beginning of your loop, and only then if you use this as your loop point which you may not want to do.

RE: Old Shuffle Post

Hello,
new to AE and interested in using to create random playback disc as discussed here:
http://dvdafteredit.com/node/673

the post referenced seems to be missing, and I haven't had luck experimenting without the complete instructions.
for reference i am working on a dvd that plays a title screen and then randomly plays through 60 +/- short chapters.

Output DDP for ARccOS specifications

Hi guys,

Have a client who needs to replicate a DVD-5 with ARccOS specifications. I just go through the PDF and I stick on one thing:

Format requirements:
- DDP2.0 images with a SSCRST of 0,1 and 3
- DDP2.10 / CMF1.0 images with a SSCRST of 0

I found that on SSCRST:

> SSCRST type 0 = No encryption
> SSCRST type 1 = Keys are supplied on the DLT and will be

Still having DVD SP 4.1 Still Menu problems

I'm running DVD Studio Pro 4.1.2, but I'm still experiencing the symptoms of this thread about the problem with the progressive flag not being set:
http://dvdafteredit.com/node/1433

When I make still menus, they display on my Toshiba set-top and a portable player as though a single field is being used.

replicator suddenly wants video-dvd - update: NOW eclipse test failed from ddp masters

hello,

this is a huge problem. The replicator (USA) just emailed and now suddenly needs to have Video-DVD as masters. (In my first email to them I made clear that replicating from video-dvd masters is not an option!) (pressing from video-dvd is just the worst way possible)

the replicators website has no specifications online. So i called them in advance to make sure they can handle DDP2.0

Read back DLTs: "extraction failed"

Hello,
we got a DVD-9 image on two DLTs to reauthor.

I dont know which software was used or if the image contains copy protection.

DVDafteredit gives me the following error message "extraction failed"

This happens at different times of the process.

1. try: Read back stops in the middle of tape 1
2. try: First tape finishes completeley but tape 2 fails in the middle
